I came to this world in uncertain date, but my friends told me that i was born in around December of 1986 and i fixed my birth day on 30th December Tibet. i didn't get any opportunity to study anything in Tibet and fled to India in 1994.
I entered in Loseling Monastery and started learn KA KHA and ABCD from the Loseling school. As the time passes my school life was over and i was out of school without any knowledge. I realized to study hard to move forward in my life. so, i tried to study in many fields like, Philosophy and Literature, History, Grammar and Buddhism and so on. as the result of those struggles, i wrote two poetry books and one history book, one book based on Buddhist Philosophy, one translation book so far.
Two books that i have written & published. First one is called Light of Heart and collection of my poems written during my school life, 15 to 19years. Second one is called The Lamp and it was memorial for my late parents.
Now, I am in last year of Middle Approach(Madyamika)in Loseling University and student of Sarah Tibetan college for higher Tibetan Literature. Non formal Researcher at Department of Education 2011 and serving as Librarian of Drepung Loseling Monastic Library.
Many things to study, But life is too short!!!!
“Ting Tong” My message tone rang very strange late at night. I was writing reading something by lying on the bed. I usually don’t care the messages just because I know those messages of that time would be my friend’s for good night’s wishes. But, I could not help seeing the message then and I just checked the message. Instead of wishing me good night, it was very sad news. The messages were “Today around 12. 30. A monk named Tsewang Norbu, 29 years old from Kham Tehor Tawu Monastery, had self immolated to protest Chinese Government’s atrocities. On his last breath, he called His Holiness the Dalai Lama returns to Tibet. Om Ma ni Ped Me Hung. May his soul rest in peace.”
Osho - A man came to me. He had been suffering from chain-smoking for thirty years; he was ill and the doctors said, "You will never be healthy if you don't stop smoking. " But he was a chronic smoker; he could not help it. He had tried -- not that he had not tried -- he had tried hard, and he had suffered much in trying, but one day or two days, and then again the urge woul...d come so tremendously, it would simply take him away. Again he would fall into the same pattern.
Because of this smoking he had lost all self-confidence: he knows he cannot do a small thing; he cannot stop smoking. He had become worthless in his own eyes; he thought himself just the most worthless person in the world. He had no respect for himself.
He came to me; he said, "What can I do? How can I stop smoking?" I said, "Nobody can stop smoking. You have to understand. Smoking is not only a question of your decision now. It has entered into your world of habits, it has taken roots. Thirty years is a long time. It has taken roots in your body, in your chemistry, it has spread all over.
It is not just a question of your head deciding; your head cannot do anything. The head is impotent; it can start things, but it cannot stop so easily. Once you have started and once you have practiced so long, you are a great yogi -- thirty years' practicing smoking. It has become autonomous; you will have to de-automatize it. " He said, "What do you mean by 'de-automatization'?"
And that's what meditation is all about: de-automatization.
I said, "You do one thing: forget about stopping. There is no need either. For thirty years you have smoked and lived; of course it was a suffering, but you have become accustomed to that too. And what does it matter if you die a few hours earlier than you would have died without smoking? What are you going to do here? What have you done? So what is the point -- whether you die Monday or Tuesday or Sunday, this year, that year -- what does it matter?"
He said, "Yes, that is true, it doesn't matter." Then I said, "Forget about it; we are not going to stop it at all. Rather, we are going to understand it. So next time, you make it a meditation. "
He said, "Meditation out of smoking?" I said, "Yes. If Zen people can make meditation out of drinking tea, and can make it a ceremony, why not? Smoking can be as beautiful a meditation. "
He looked thrilled. He said, "What are you saying?" He became alive! He said, "Meditation? Just tell me -- I cannot wait! "
I gave him the meditation. I said, "Do one thing. When you take the packet out of your pocket, for a moment go slowly. When you are taking the packet of cigarettes out of your pocket move slowly. Enjoy it, there is no hurry. Be conscious, alert, aware; take it out slowly, with full awareness. Then take the cigarette out of the packet with full awareness, slowly -- not in the old hurried way, unconscious way, mechanical way. Then start tapping the cigarette on your packet -- but very alertly. Listen to the sound, just as Zen people do when the samovar starts singing and the tea starts boiling, and the aroma. Then smell the cigarette and the beauty of it.... "
He said, "What are you saying? The beauty?" "Yes, it is beautiful. Tobacco is as divine as anything. Even Morarji Desai is divine, so why not tobacco? Smell it; it is God's smell."
He looked a little surprised. He said, "What, are you joking?" "No, I am not joking."
Even when I joke, I don't joke. I am very serious.
"Then put it in your mouth, with full awareness, light it with full awareness. Enjoy every act, small act, and divide it into as many small acts as possible, so you can become more and more aware.
"Then have the first puff: God in the form of smoke. Hindus say, 'annam brahm' -- ' Food is God.' Why not smoke? All is God. Fill your lungs deeply -- this is a pranayam. I am giving you the new yoga for the new age! Then release the smoke, relax, another puff... and go very slowly.
"If you can do it, you will be surprised, soon you will see the whole stupidity of it. Not because others have said that it is stupid, not because others have said that it is bad: you will see it. And the seeing will not be just intellectual. It will be from your total being, it will be a vision of your totality. And then, one day, if it drops, it drops; if it continues, it continues. You need not worry about it. "
After three months he came, and he said, "But it dropped."
"Now, " I said, "try it on other things too. "
This is the secret, the secret: de-automatize. Walking, walk slowly, watchfully. Looking, look watchfully, and you will see trees are greener than they have ever been and roses are rosier than they have ever been. Listen. Somebody is talking, gossiping: listen, listen attentively. When you are talking, talk attentively. Let your whole waking activity become de-automatized.
No God No Evil
I am just wondering who made the God and Why people believe in God.Why peole believe in God is that they need somebody to prove some kind of things which they can't explain, know and be aware of. So, the best answer for it is " God and it’s Plan". It’s true that belief in God makes many of peole humble and honest because from that prospectiveྲ but there is no God who makes and plans for us. Self is the God and Self is the Evil. If you commit some positive actions, there will be a positive result. If you commit negative action, there will be negative action. That is for sure. We called it KARMA. it is very strong too. Lord Buddha said Self is God and Self is evil.
Religious and Politics are totally separate from each other in terms of theories and their activities and so forth. Spirituality is for cessation of samsara and politic is for how one can rule the samsara. But, in many of histories both Tibetan and Indian, we can find that there were many of spiritualists who involved in political activities now and then. For instance, Lha Lama Jangchup Woe after the King Tharma, Choegyal Phakpa during the Sakya times and especially at the time of The 7th Dalai Lama, Monk minister system ( Kalon lama) was made and since then the system of ruling the government by lamas started. If we look back to past history, many mistakes made by those lamas were seen every now and then. We should be truly to state that those politicians did some good deeds like keeping our traditional religious and culture which we can show and help millions of people in the world now days. We are truly obliged to past generations for keeping treasure of Tibet till now and it’s their gratitude for us to crane our neck high among other people even we are under the word R (Refugee) now days.
Therefore, It’s very difficult to confirm that the system of ruling the politics by lamas is good or not. There are reasonable explanations from both sides for approval. However, even in exile, many of lamas are involved in politics and top of that there are separate two seats for the five religious sects each in Tibetan Parliament and you can find many lamas and monks in the Parliament. Like other countries, Tibetan monks and nuns can stand in political campaign and have fully right to vote for the both of religious and province MP and the prime minister too.
It’s very strange that 75% of scholars, rulers, intellectuals and social workers of Tibet is either monk or ex monk. So it is quite true of calling as “Lama Country” to Tibet by other historians. There are only more than one lake Tibetans in the exile and Many of Those are in the monasteries. So, all of the politicians hold high expectation to get more votes from the monasteries and the monasteries are called as “The Vote Bank”. During the time of vote, many political campaigns come to monasteries and beg for the votes, striking many campaign photos with the brief history all over the walls. You can see full of those photos on the walls and streets in the monasteries when the vote is near.
However, no difference of monk and non monk, all of the Tibetans in the exile had a great and high development in democracy in 2010. In other word, there had a great political invasion in all over the Tibetan settlements and monasteries too. Many Tibetans participated in 3rd Kalon Kripa and 15th MP’s vote which had just held recently. Most of monks and nuns also participated in those political votes and had a good enough knowledge of politics. By the influence of that political invasion in monks mind, many lamas happened to hold a political post more than before. According to my perspective, holding political post by monks is not good and we have to avoid such works soon. It’s very nice to learn that there were no monks standing campaign of upcoming Kalon Tripa. That was good sign of improvement in lay people and especially in young generations.
At last I just want to express that 2011 is the year for young generations and they should lead our nation ahead. It’s better for the monks not to involve in political any more except in few occasions. I will be extremely happy if I feel the freedom from the political invasion in monasteries.
Everyone of us was born in this world without our own knowledge. We didn’t know any thing and any one in this world by birth. This big world is totally new to us. We didn’t know what we can do for this world and I really don’t know whether we give some tears for it and some smiles. It is very strange that allof us were born with screem and tears. If we didn’t cry by birth it is considered to have little bit wrong within us. I am just wondering that why we start our livies by crying and tears. Why do we cry just as we enter in this world? Is this world very horible to see? Do we see some dangerous when we open our eyes at the first time.
